Hi,

the error message says that "root" is not allowed to connect. This indicates that there is no account for root that can connect from localhost (maybe only one for 127.0.0.1?). The standard installation allows root access from any host (%) if I recall correctly, so I wonder how that change could happen. Try the IPv4 loopback address and see if that works.
