Clicking Start Server appears to just crash Workbench

Hi

I am very new to MySQL. I have downloaded the Server, which appears to be working fine, and Workbench. But when I click on Start Server it appears to just crash the Workbench. I saw on another forum post that if you have Port 3306 it means there's a bug, as it should say 3307, although I can't see any way to rectify this problem.
