Service does not install

I installed 64 bit version of community server. I thought I would follow along their white paper during the installation, but there were some discrepancies in the screens, but I thought that maybe it wouldn't matter. When the installation completed and I added the path, I can open MySQL in a DOS window, but what about the service? What does it mean to be a service? I have nothing in the Systray where it is supposed to be.

I looked in the Task Manager under services and I see several that begin with 'MYSQL...', but what are they and how do I access them?
