Frustratingly the reverse happens as well. I uninstalled ALL MySQL componenets and used the MySQL Installer 5.6.10 to install a fresh copy of 5.6.10 on the system which correctly put it where I wanted it as a fresh install actually asked me. However going back and then installing 5.5.30 does not ask me where to put it and defaults to installing it in the C:\Program Files\MySQL folder which is not where I want it to be.
