The package "Visual Studio Tools for Office 2010 Runtime" must be installed now

Hello,

I just downloaded mySQL 5.6 for Windows (mysql-installer-community-5.6.10.1), upon trying to install it on Windows 8 Pro 64-bit with Office Pro 2010 (32-bit) installed and selecting the Full option with the MySQL for Excel 1.1.0 app, the installer tells me:

'The package "Visual Studio Tools for Office 2010 Runtime" must be installed now
...
Once done come back here and re-check the requirements by clicking the Re-Check button'

Even after installing the latest Visual Studio Tools for Office 2010 Runtime from Microsoft's website (which says x64 once installed), hitting Back and trying again, it never detects that it's installed. Further, there is no "Re-check button", so what is this dialog referring to?

It seems impossible to install the Excel addin with the current mySQL 5.6 installer.

These articles seem to report similar problems with no fix, and indicate that the installer is pointing to an old version:

I even tried downloading the 32-bit version of the Visual Studio tools, but it won't let me install on my x64 machine.

Can someone please tell me the fix for this? How can I install the Excel app with mySQL?
