I am having the same issue of not being able to get rid of an old root@localhost password during re-install on a development machine. I have used the Installer to remove all components and checked the option to remove all data files. I have deleted all folders in Program Files, Program Files (x86) and ProgramData. After reboot and a reinstall using mysql-installer-community.5.6.14.0.msi (Developer option) I get 3 login windows and don't know the "present password"

Thanks
Richard
