MySQL Installer failing on Internal error

HI everyone,
I had 5.6 running on my PC at home for game hosting purposes. With the newest updates of the games releasing it was suggested to upgrade to 5.7. I did this but had connection issues. I then went ahead and uninstalled 5.6 and removed all remaining folders from my PC. Now neither the 5.6 or 5.7 installations work. They keep failing at the launch of the installer with a message "Internal Error. (There is an error in XML document (0,0).) The installer will now close" This also happens with newly downloaded msi packages and web installers.
Please help!
