Hello Jim,
You mention you have a local MySQL Server installation in your laptop, but then you say you try to establish a remote connection, so I am confused.
Are you using MySQL for Excel on the same laptop where your server is running?
If so, you should be able to connect using localhost as the server and the correct port you configured the server with.
Are you also stating that your website can successfully connect to the Server but you can't using MySQL for Excel?
