Eventum forms an SMTP connection instead of using a local MTA like sendmail or postfix so it shouldn't matter what MTA you are using, as long as your hostname, username and password are accurate.
If that line is generating an error, please paste it in. If it is not, you might want to turn up the error reporting level and see what is output.
