One SCSI disk or RAID0 on two SATA disks
Our database servers are now days a bottleneck. System info: 2 Linux servers, replication structure (master=opteron, slave=xeon), 2 GB RAM/server, mysql, 6 databases (100 tables/database, size=6 GB for all databases).
During high traffic on the site the database servers get slow, queries take longer to execute. The tables are indexed, the servers uses caching etc, everything is optimized…
On high traffic the CPU usage is about 15-20 % on the database servers. Low I think…
So the problem must be the I/O to the disks on the servers. Which is best? To run RAID0(2 SATA disks, 7200 rpm) or one SCSI(73GB, 15000 rpm, 300 MB/s)(Know about the risks with RAID0)? Which results in the best performance regarding speed?
Also, which solution is best if we need more speed in the future…
