Need to select one value from a list of repeating values, please help

I am making a select drop down menu and I am pulling the options from a list of records in the DB. Unfortunately the records often repeat the same values for completely different records. When I display them I may have a value that repeats itself numerous times over. I am looking for a query that will filter the redundant values so that it shows it only once.

If it helps to have a visual the URL is https://www.surevoice.com/register.php. Once you select a state you will see what I am talking about. If no information displays it is because their are no records that match that state. I am slowly taking those states out, but just choose another state.

Any suggestions are more than welcome, and thanks to all that answer.
