MySQL Server locks up daily

My MySQL server is locking up almost daily. There are no errors in the logs to explain why this is happening. Originally we thought this was due to "too many connections". So we lowered the connections from 600 to 400 but the database still locked up today. In addition, we allocated additional memory to the server last Friday (from 4gb to 8 gb) to see if that would help.

What else could be causing this? What additional items should I be checking? Do I need to raise my connections instead?
