Statistically I could have 500 concurrent (simultaneous) connections, each running in its own thread and each thread having its own connection to the database. Database transactions per thread is minimal. Each thread is alive for only 20 seconds after which the device will disconnect. I designed the system this way specifically for the reason to reduce CPU and DB bandwidth usage. Imagine all 20000 devices being connected permanently...

Will post the new figures once I have them. Have not had a chance to apply them.
