PS I know if you sort on an enum column they're returned in order of their numeric values so I'm guessing the index mentioned above would store the numeric values rather than the strings. I'm sure I read though that at some point in the future MySQL intended to change this behaviour such that an enum field would be sorted on its string values. If that changeover occurs what would the index store then?
