Your description does not mention a crash. So I don't see the relation between title and text.
Regarding the stalling execution, I observed several mentions of this by users. A possible problem could be the query cache. It seems to do some reorganization after some time.
If it is not an unacceptable performance threat for you, try to diable the query cache and see if it happens again.
