Thanks for the suggestion, I'll try flushing the tables tonight as the problem is occuring on a production server. The strange thing is it seems to affect tables that haven't been accessed for a couple of days, as well as ones that are in constant use.

Is there a preferred way to shutdown MySQL when it's running as a service? At the moment I use MySQL Administrator to shut it down.
