I would agree that the behavior seems to contradict the docs. I searched the bug database and saw a few bugs with innodb and repeatable read, but the've been fixed in your version.
It's possible this is another bug. Have you tried with read committed isolation level? You might try that as well..., but maybe it is a bug.
