Re: Larger than expected tmp files querying InnoDB format database

Greetings,

I appear to have pressed Post message instead of Preview. Anyway...

I am not up to custom hacking the CiviCRM code to optimize it for each release / each nasty query.

Also I see conflicting results... from this MySQL forum I am hearing that the query performs based on how it is coded while from the CiviCRM forum I hear of at least one peer with the query running well on their configuration.

Ahhh... perhaps they have gobs of RAM on their server? This client is paying for a 1GB slice of RAM. Perhaps given bookoo more RAM, MySQL might not have to swap to disk so much? Is that a plausible explanation of my peers drastically better results?

At this point I am considering to reload the virtual server with a much larger /var partition, having reconfigured MySQL to use /var/tmp for swap space as opposed to the distro default of /tmp. I think it better to have a larger /var partition, leaving the /tmp partition set to 1GB size.

Any other suggestions?

I am thankful,

Michael Lueck
