Hi Rick - thanks for the advice, I didn't realize that there was an alternative to foreign keys. Can you point me in the direction of that alternative? Like, what should I google to learn the alternative :)
I found that using "SET foreign_key_checks = 0;" before the statement and "SET foreign_key_checks = 1;" after the statement gave no error, and the table was populated by the statement (or a series of such statements adding rows to the table). Am I right in thinking that just defeats the purpose?
