MySQL 5.6.16 64-bit on windows 8.1, same machine as the 32-bit instance
Yes, it works with or without the 290K rows of records in the table.
But it takes 270sec to finish the statement with data, so much longer than on redhat linux platfor.
I guess I should not complain too much. Who cares about the windows platform these days. :)
