Help on deleting inaccurate data from GIS

Please help! I have a large amount of city/town name and location data in a GIS, however a lot of the data is inaccurate and in many instances the towns/cities are not real towns/cities at all. Is there an quick and easy way to filter the fake from the real and remove the fake from the GIS? At the moment I have 2 million records and going through them manually is too much work.

I have been trying to find a way to solve this problem but have not been having much luck at all, does anyone have anything brilliant to suggest?
