Hi,
I tested my configuration on 4 machines.
It's a client server application geared towards MySQL Server.
The client application produces lots of SQL queries to produce results that are inserted in the database.
Now I tried the same software configuration on 4 machines:
All Windows XP
MySQL Server 5.1
1 - Database Server : 2x QuadCores E5410 @ 2.33GHz so in total 8 cores and 2.33GHz 4GB of RAM
2 - Laptop (Generic) : Intel Dual Core T7400 @ 2.16GHz - 994MHz 0.99GB of RAM
3 - Lenovo T400 : Intel Dual Core T9900 @ 3.06GHz - 1.59GHz 2.93GHz of RAM
4 - MacBookPro bootcamp Windows XP : Intel Core Duo T9500 @ 2.60GHz - 2.59GHz 2.98GB of RAM
Config #3 is roughly 20 times faster. In other words is produces the same results in an incredible less amount of time. All MySql server setting are the defaults settings. I cannot quite understand why there is such a big different.
This has a very big importance for me as the results I want to produce would take 20 days in the most common case and that with the lenovo T400 is down to 1 days without any database tuning.
Is this only due to the CPU T9900 @ 3.06GHz? could it just explain the 20x improvement?!
Hope you can highlighten on this one, I will have to recommend hardware configuration and today I am very much in the doubt.
Cheers,
JOel
