aborted connections

I've got my Server Configuration pushing the hardware limits. The MySQL Server so much faster than it was when I arrived. I'm after them to add more RAM as I think 2GB is for a desktop machine and not a server (and it's not like RAM is all that expensive either). I think I'll get the RAM before the two internal harddrives (there is a RAID, I want the OS and logs on separate disks).

So here's my problem. I think my aborted connections is too high. It has come down DRAMATICALLY by upping the table_cache variable. But anything higher than 1240 causes the MySQL server to crash with too many open files. I think 34.72 an hour is just too many. Any other hints on how to get this number down?

thanks,
erin
