millions of records

I have a table that has 27 columns (mostly all varchar(50)) that has a potential of storing millions of records. Unfortunately, the records need to be able to go back ten years so I can't just archive some of the data. What are any suggestion for making sure that the data will be accessible and as streamlined as possible besides having a monster server?
