Hi back! Yea work has been intense and I started school so little time is left for online these days.

I keep reading about the flexibility of Linux and filesystems that are targeted for the use (like reiserfs for DB and xfs for video/audio). Not sure if you benchmarked the different ones since I haven't finished that chapter. I've printed out your online chapter on benchmarking (I know i need to wander over to the bookstore and pick it up but I figure benchmarking is what I need to do first and I have that chapter! :) ). I've been reading it on the bus and I hope to make real headway at lunch today.

I've set up a system to benchmark and if they give me the time I'll get some real answers. I am restricted to linux but I sometimes wonder if I should push for something else?

My system was setup with reiserfs and with ulimits so I can test open file limits and speed. I used supersmack to bash it around when I first set it up and was not able to bring the server down. Now granted my machine only has 512 RAM (that's all they'd give me) but the MySQL and the OS server only slowed to a crawl but did not crash. I thought that was cool.

But I'd like to do more scientific benchmarking and it's at the top of my list of things to get done if security doesn't bog me down again! :)
