Unfortunately I haven't had much experience with bulk loading on MySQL. When I worked with Microsoft SQL Server, switching from SQL statements to bulk load was a huge performance boost. At the MySQL conference earlier this year, Peter Zaitsev told me that LOAD DATA INFILE is the fastest way to get data into the database. I got the impression that it ignores the indexes during the load and then recreates them afterward. So I'd assume (hope?) that if you had a constraint violation, the load would get rolled back and you'd get an error. Maybe someone with more experience can chime in?
