1 ! ? That is grossly unreasonable.

But there is no "safe" value. I could envision a single connection that runs a single query that consumes huge amounts of CPU and I/O for a long time. At the other extreme, I deal with web pages that open thousands of connections per hour, but do not threaten the system at all.
