How does ConnectCheckIntervalDelay work as of NDB 7.2.1

I'm looking into anything that may help work around http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=71394

http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/en/mysql-cluster-ndbd-definition.html#ndbparam-ndbd-connectcheckintervaldelay

So I changed ConnectCheckIntervalDelay from the default of 0 (off) to 1.5 seconds
ndb_config --type=ndbd -q ConnectCheckIntervalDelay
1500 1500

But if I stop the network for 10 seconds I see no dead nodes, no arbitration or anything new in the logs.

I couldn't find anything detailed about this setting so I came here for advice. I did notice the change in the default from 1500 to 0 in NDB 7.2.1 however nothing in the changelog.

Does this option still work or have I misinterpreted its purpose?
