Many thanks, Stewart. It is quite important to have all scenarios in order to take the right decision. So, at the end, you suggest the all-in-ram database solution.
In any case I would like to know if it is possible also to use a shared storage solution with a transaction-safe engine, but as you remarked perhaps I'd better to discuss it in another forum (I will try the innodb forum, to see if someone has already experienced it).
I have really appreciated the time you dedicated me.
