It seems that the dump from 5.0 when imported replaced the proc table with the 16 column 5.0 version. I imported the mysql database on a test server with 5.5 on it, ran the mysqlupgrade script and this fixed the columns. I then dumped this and imported on the production server and and slave and everything is fine now.
