Replication -- no standard way to "failover" to another server. You would need to take action to promote the Slave to be Master (before writes are practical).

Cluster -- a lot of work to set up, need to change "engine", etc.

If both machines are in the same location, what if that location dies (earthquake, flood, power outage, etc)? That is, cluster (by itself) is only a partial solution to HA.
