I guess, I'll go scour the release notes for 5.6.13 and see if there are reasonable workarounds for me until the next GA release.
[Edit] I see now that 5.6.13 is GA as of the end of July. I'll update my slaves and see if it helps. Updating the Master will require a down-time, which isn't likely to happen for a while.
