Re: Root getting "Access denied for user ''@'localhost' to database 'mysql'"

Yeah, I had troubles setting the root 2nd-level password. Was following along with "Comprehensive MySQL5" book (Apress), but trouble with 2nd level (as noted in book!) password. This leads to problems, and now if I try to remove mysql (yum erase) and reinstall, same problem as above (Access denied for user '').

What stragedy is best to fix this - there must be a workaround - anything? Happy to start over; no data to preserve. (I am experienced MySQL user.)
