Connecting to MySQL from external app (libmysql.dll) failing?

Hi everyone,

I have a mysql server running on my providers machine and I want to connect to this mysql server from an external application. This application uses the libmysql.dll library. However, connecting simply fails, although the password is correct and the user is set to be valid for any connecting host.

I have even tried to connect to the mysql-server using my locally running phpMyAdmin, but the password-window simply opens again and again.

Any idea how this might be solved?
