MySQL 5.1 and Administrator GUI tools

I've been using MySQL 5.0 for about a year, and looking after it with Adminstrator GUI tools and/or PHPMyAdmin. (Windows XP using IIS and PHP 5.2.8)
I would like to upgrade to MySQL 5.1 to take advantage of Partitioning. I've loaded MySQL 5.1.30 on a test bed machine and have found that the Adminstrator GUI can't access/show partitioning, and when I take a backup of a partitoned table, it comments out the partitoning info.
When I introduced Partitioning to a table, PHPMyAdmin crashes if I try to browse the table, so I'm stuck with not being able to easily "look after" partitioning.
Can Administrator GUI 5.0 be made to work with partitioning? How?

Thanks.
Barry Galbraith.
