I am a newbie so please forgive me...

MySQL Ver 8.40 Distrib 4.0.16 installed on server

i have successfully managed to backup a copy of my databases to an sql file however i noticed that the size of .sql file is almost double the size of the contents in teh entire database.

I am assuming that i need to purge the log files but i have been unsuccessful with this attempt?? I used the following command:

purge master logs to "logxxx.log"
It returns a "QUERY OK" but i cannot see any difference.

Why is the size of the .sql file so big and what do i need to do to make it smaller??

Kindest regards
Nick Pennisi
