mysql 4.1.9-max pb

hello

I install mysql 4.1.9-max but I have apache 2.0.50 and php 4.3.7 alredy installed. I used mysql 3.23. I have any compatibility pb.
With the new server I have this error ech time I access to a db via apache :


Error

MySQL said:


Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading MySQL client



Any help please.
