PHP mysql help

I am running two servers. Server1 is Redhat 7.3 with mysql 4.0 server. Server 2 was running Redhat 7.3 with apache and php. I rebuild server2 (with new hard drives thank god) with Fedora Core 3 with just Apache PHP and PHP-mysql. Of course FC3 wanted to install msyql 3.25 client libraries. Ether way my php application connects to server 1 for the database. But after the upgrade to FC3, Server1 locks up periodically and I have to restart mysql on it. So this went on for a while and I swaped the harddrives back to the original Server 2 with RH7.3 and Server 1 is fine. I'm using a mount to a netapp so all the php pages are stored on a NAS so they haven't changed. Will FC3 not work with my setup?
