MySQL 4.1.9 and ODBC 3.51.10-2 with ASP "Catastrophic Failure"

While I know that you can fix the problem by downgrading the ODBC driver to 3.51.9 and then setting MySQL up using old_password I'm confused as to why MySQL hasn't addressed this problem. I recognize the problem and understand and half crap way of fixing it but why in the heck is it still a problem.
You would think MySQL would fix this ASAP but the bug isn't even open any longer and nothings been fixed coming on 3 WHOLE WEEKS! Seriously, what is the status of this problem. Just communicate with us.
