configuring and connecting ODBC

I am using XP PRO, where I installed MySQL 4.1.18 (I believe) Essentials. I also installed ODBC Connector 3.51. The MySQL service is up and running - automatically with the start of the system.

Now, following the procedure (given in the manual) to configure ODBC (DSN etc), I tried to test the connection (the ´Test´ button in the Connector dialoguefor the DSN configuration) - and it does not work. I keep getting the message:

"Access denied for user ´ODBC´@localhost´´

(ODBC is the name I used for DSN, localhost is the default system name.

There is absolutely no cue as to what are the reasons.

Anybody has same experience --- and a solution?

Thanks --- Theo
