Hi,

I have a very similar problem and am also a novice in this area.

I am trying to connect from my Win XP PC (behind a firewall with port 8443 open to https) via ODBC to a MySQL database on a remote Linux server. I can connect to phpMyAdmin in a browser using the same port and work on the database that way but I want to link the remote database to a local Access database to simplify certain data updates. All I get is the same message as Hans-Jürgen after a long time-out of a few minutes.

I too would be very grateful if any of you whizz kids out there can shed some light on the matter.
