MySQL runs very, very slow - Using VB/ODBC

Hi all,
I've read several posts on here about MySQL running slow when connecting to the database through ODBC from ASP, but my problem is using ODBC to connect to the db from Visual Basic.
I'm not web programme, just normal EXE code programming, its was working fine at the beginning of last week, but now its taking about 10seconds to establish a connection, open the recordset and retrieve or place the data.
I'm using ODBC driver 3.51.09. Anybody any idea's???
