Thanks for your excellent reply.
What I am trying to achieve is that each node has its own web server and a "localhost" db which is replicated to the other nodes. This way the user can go to any node and the session exists on all nodes.
Is this how HA sessions should be done on MySQL?
I have just updated to 5.6 and so far it seems to be much improved, although it is using 10x the amount of RAM of 5.5.
