Data Entity Model

Simple SELECT queries run with an Ado.net Entity Data Model connection to mySQL is slow slow slow (6ish sec). The same queries connected with a MySQLConnection in less than a second.
I've seem the problem all over the net, has anyone figured a way to use an ADO.net Data Entity Model with MySQL at normal speeds?
