How integrate JasperReports 1.2.5 with mysql-connector-java-5.0.3 to execute query´s with aliases on fields

Hi, I working on jasperreports and use AS expresion in an sql statement, example: SELECT field_a + field_b AS sum FROM table_1, But using JDBC (mysql-connector-java-5.3.0-bin.jar) the alias sum is send back '' or null as title of field. I´m working with MySQL 5.0.24 and jdk 1.4.0 and jasperreports 1.2.5. Any suggest

I provee with mysql-connector-java-3.1.11-bin.jar and work fine but the strore procedures not.
