MySQL Forums :: JDBC and Java :: Too many connections

I have been running MySql 5.0.45 in conjunction with JDBC 5.0.8 for use with my Tomcat 5.5 application and I did not encounter the too many connections. I changed to Tomcat 6.0 and still on 5.0.8 JDBC and MySql 5.0.45, and all of a sudden, I keep getting these errors.

The /etc/my.cnf did not have max_connections parameter in my server at any point and still worked fine. Now, I am planning to update the cnf file with teh max_connections parameter. Before, I do that, I was wondering if someone can help me figure out why I am getting these errors. Thanks, Ramesh
