Hi John,
MySQL Connector Java is a Type IV driver, written entirely in Java. There is no platform-specific code which would cause problems connecting between Windows and Linux machines. You'll probably get more meaningful feedback on this forum if you provide the stack trace from the Exception you're dealing with.
