Hi,

I can't be of much help on suggesting network settings for your environment, but I could suggest you to create a simple Java program that executes and fetches data from the failing queries and test it in the same machine where pentaho is running.
If it runs, you should check pentaho settings or get support from them. If it fails, try running the same program in other machines. You can also install MySQL Workbench, preferably in the same machine where pentaho is running, and test failing queries again.
This should allow you to identify where is the source of your problem is, if network related, Java connector or pentaho sytems.
If you feel that this is a Java connector related problem please report a bug with much detail as possible.
