I am having a similar problem (problem connecting to mysql using C#)
I'm using sqlyog enterprise....and had trouble setting up Data Connections in Server Explorer so I put the following snippet of code to do this...


string sql = "Data Source=localhost; User ID=admin; Password=mypassword";
SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(sql);

SqlDataReader rdr = null;
//Open the connection
conn.Open();

When I go to my console window, the user ID and password combination I inserted above is correct, but when I run my form with the above snippet I freeze everytime I get to conn.Open() command

I get the following error:
