Yes, this is True - you will need to install MySQL ODBC driver on each workstation.
More simple, fast and flexible solution is to use some other data access library. I will not suggest to use dbExpress, because Embarcadero dbExpress MySQL have many other deployment and stability issues. Best will be to use 3d party solutions, like AnyDAC (www.anydac.net) or MySQLDAC.
